Confession:

Pink is my pop-up shoulder devil.

The singer. Not the color, come on nakies.

I'm not saying that when faced with a decision, Pink pops up and tells me to do bad, selfish stuff. She just pops up and says, "Hey Carly, listen to this awesome song I wrote. You'll feel better girl." [edited version. Pink uses harsher language with her peeps. which I am one of.]

And then I do it and get distracted by how awesome and punk-rocker I am. I even think I'm a funny punkster and not at all that bad.

But it's just the Pink in me. Or at least, on my shoulder.

All I'm saying is, Oprah is pretty cool, lots of ladies in this world feel a sisterly connection with her, they'd probably hug her if they had the chance, but Pink's my girl. I'd hug her. Or have her back in a dark alley against other punk-peeps. Whatever.

Rock out nakies. To whatever makes you happy.

*Mornings*

Every morning Mr. Wonderful has school.

And guess who doesn't? Ha ha!

Tommy wakes up and while he gets ready for the day, I SLEEP IN! Delicious.

Then I pop out of bed 5 minutes before he needs to go, throw on 5 more layers of clothes and drive him to school.

When I get back, the house is empty and warm and lit by twinkle lights. It's beautiful, but it's quiet and lonely without my man inside. So I have to entertain myself.

Especially when I'm in our bathroom. Our bathroom has one of those handy dandy light-switch fans that doesn't let you choose between lights or fan because BOOM it does both at once. It's kind of like being inside of a cyclone. (I'm imagining...).

So because I can't hear myself think, I feel like I can be louder with my voice when I'm in there. I like to bang around the doors of the cupboard as I get out my toothbrush and makeup and make loud impressions of loud people. Like Thor.

"HEIMDAALLL! OPEN THE BIFROST!!!"

Then, I check my "rage" face in the mirror to see if I'm good. I'm not quite there yet.

"HEIMDAALLLL!!!"

Last week, (thanks to Aubrey and Jon taking us to see the Muppets Movie), I had a life changing realization that I am the Swedish Chef whenever I brush my teeth!

I am rather notorious for trying to talk to people while I'm brushing my teeth because I think I can still make intelligible conversation. I think after living with me for a year or two, maybe I do become easier to understand...but! After Tommy said "WHAT?" for the third time from inside the shower, I started impersonating the Swedish chef by giving in to the natural mumble of my toothbrush and paste filled mouth and I'm him!

Minus the chickens.

Look How Fancy! ...It's Christmas!

We have been mischievous, little, gypsies.

Half short and half tall. And ALL the way fancy.

Since December 16th Tommy and I haven't lived in the same place for more than four days straight. We've been sneaking around, living everywhere!! Fancy gypsies.

We've stayed in the posh, luxury homes of so many friends and family, seeing so many loved ones, it has been amazing!

Thank you so much to Grandma and Grandpa White, Aubrey and Jon, David and Mindy, Merry and Ryan, Jameson and Becky, Mom and Dad Ranck, Jonesy and Tierra, Brenton, Jessica and Adam, Aunt Jen, Aunt LiAnn, Jordan and Shaun, Momma and Daddy and of course, all of the children and pets we've upset the natural life-rhythms of by being in their air space. We loved visiting with you all. How I wish I had stationary and addresses at a time like this! Imagine cute thank you cards!

We were so blessed and so pampered this Christmas. There is truly nothing like this wonderful season where Christ's spirit is felt and shared by so many people.

Babies have been born into the family: Congratulations Melanie and Aaron! And Rachel and Nate!
Wonderfully long and beautiful marriages have been celebrated: WOOHOOO Grandma and Grandpa!
And I am reminded of how beautiful life is right now, and how precious it was to have lived yesterday, and how fantastic it will be to wake up tomorrow morning and be able to live some more!

Everyone's lives are changing all the time, so it is truly a blessing when we get to be there for snippets in the lives of those we love so much. We've made a lot of memories in the past month : )

The Newlyweds

Oh The Newlyweds, how are The Newlyweds?

Those Steinkuhlers.

Well, Tommy is sitting on our new Xtra long couch, eating Honey Nut Cheerios straight from the bag while squinting at a miniature copy of Justice League Sinister Imitation like it's the most engrossing textbook on his college required list.

No, Jon and Jamo, it is sadly not on his required reading list.
I believe he got it for free from the darn box of cheerios.

He and I have eaten breakfast, lunch, supper, dessert AND I have promised him a night of our favorite t.v. shows if he gets his homework done but he is opting for choice number 2: cheerios and Justice League.

I am snuggled next to him wearing 3 layers of clothes, a blanket and a toasty laptop learning about Thai Peanut Sauce and How Best To Apply Red Lipstick and work it all-the-live-long-day because I, dear Nakies, have gone domestic.

DOMESTIC.

In that I have once again acquired a place of my own = I am the only woman in this whole house!

I have decided that one man and one woman can live in a shared space quite nicely and it can feel like theirs to both of them.

But toss another woman into the mix, and it's infringement. All of a sudden territories need to be marked. Give me the tape. And heavens, please! Sharpie my name on my milk!

Toss another man into the mix, and it's annoying.
Honey, I just got you accustomed to my weird ways [i.e. "Rules" and "Demands for Sanity"], now I have to do it again? He's just not getting it!

Now Tommy leaves me alone all day and my mind goes crazy with the possibilities.

What can I cook for dinner!
I could make anything!
I don't even have to wear pants!
I can watch a full movie in the middle of the day!
I can leave the milk out and put it back when I want to!
MARGGHHH Chocolate milk for breakfaaast!!!

Am I searching for jobs?
Yes.
Have I called a whole bunch of people and asked necessary and undesirable questions?
Yes!
Did I have a mini break down when I applied online to KFC and Pizza Hut?
YES! ...who wouldn't?

Have I gone business to business with my resume?
Not yet.
I may be able to smell the future cheese stuck in my shoe traction from working in Greasy Hut, but baby, it's cold outside. Domestic does not equal desperate.

I'm actually quite hopeful : )

I am momentarily unemployed, and I feel good about it. I'm making progress even though it's slow.
My baby is in college and he's taking it on like a wizard.

We've got great food to eat every day and a bed every night. We could even sleep on the couch! Options baby!

Kisses and hugs to everyone!

My Kids Are Amazing

Tomorrow is our last day working at our current jobs.

I think it's pretty safe to say we have absolutely loved our time working at these jobs.

Tommy has learned a ton about estimating and construction contracting companies and he is a mad pro at excel now too : )

I have spent these past three months getting to know 30+ amazing kids. They are hilarious beyond belief, and I have some things I'd like to share, but sadly, without hearing their voices it won't be as funny, but I'll do my best.

-----

December 5th:

"One of my 5 year olds wrote out his wish-list to Santa today.

He called me over yelling "Carly, how do you spell 'NAKED'?!"
I walked over wondering what on earth he was up to and he explained that he wanted a naked mole rat for christmas.

After we got through that long one [it took the whole 11 inches of his paper], he said in delight, "Great! Now I just need to spell Copper Head Snake!"

This was his finished product:

Naked Mole Rat
Copr Hed Snake
Rat Mouse Tarantula
Bat

Afterwards he drew which type of bat he wanted so Santa would know.
Then he decided to draw a naked mole rat, copper head snake, rat, mouse, and tarantula too.
Just for good measure.

-----

One of my 7 year old girls is currently in love with horses.

She has many of them that she rides around constantly. Imaginary ones of course. She is very passionate about them.

November 28th:

Sabrina made a paper horse today. She came over to me so we could brain storm about names for him.

S:
"I know! His name can be Russell!"
Me:
"Russell?"
S:
"No...What do you think would be a good name?
Me:
"...Asher?"
S:
"You're a genius! His name can be DASH!"

I'm glad kids can take our lame ideas, make them sound awesome and think we are still geniuses at the same time : )

----

Trevor is another one of my 7 year olds. He is adorable, has a smile 24/7 except when he's bummed about something small that happened 1-7 days previous, or when he thinks his older brother is being picked on. Trevor is tiny. He has huge, blue eyes and glasses that make them even larger and much of the time he just blinks up at you with a huge grin on his face.

My boss has a habit of saying the word "Seriously?" a lot when joking, sarcastic, or when she really can't believe something has happened. Trevor has picked this up and now says it all the time. It always makes me laugh.

Example:
He saw another kids shirt and said.
"A shirt with zippers. Seriously?!"

----
About a month ago I went out on a limb and taught the boys the code of chivalry and let them battle each other with paper towel roll centers. It was a pretty big experiment since they get pretty rowdy without my help. Before starting I went over the rules with them again. Especially the "No stabbing anyone in the back."

Trevor said "We won't stab anyone."

Me: "Thank you Trevor. You've been very chivalrous this entire time."

T: "Yeah, I'm feeling pretty chivalrous today."

I'm pretty sure he doesn't know what chivalrous means. But he's got it down pat.

----

Ruth is 8 or 9.
One day she randomly yelled to me from the other end of the table:

"CARLY! DO YOU WATCH BARBIE MOVIES WHEN YOU'RE BORED?!"

Me:
*stunned stare*
"...Barbie Movies?"

R: "Yeah, Barbie movies."

Me: "...I have never watched a Barbie movie in my whole life-"

R: "I've seen ALL the Barbie movies. I watch them when I get bored. I LOVE BARBIE MOVIES."

------

: ) I'm going to miss my kids.

Jobs Galore!

Well Apes, you may have heard. Or you may be hearing here, now, because I am going to tell you.

The Germans Got Jobs.

What?! Yes.

Which ones?! These ones!

This really cute one:

And this cross-eyed drinker [rootbeer!] one:

BOTH OF THEM?? yes. both.

Oh we're just tickled!

Tommy-boy got a paid internship/full time/job thing with a construction company in the area. He sits in a box all day as Supreme Intern Estimator playing fun construction games on the computer and blowing people's socks right off their feet with his mad estimation skills.

It's so supreme, we went out and got him spiffy new [used] clothes from Value Village so that he can look gallant all week long.

I haven't taken a picture of them yet, but judging how good he looks in this, I think you can imagine the rest.

I, on the other hand, will be working/internship-ing in a before and after school kids program for elementary-aged sprites. Thus, I shall be grunging down to fulfill my duties as Frau Teacher-Person in...dun dun dun!.... a bigger box than Tommy's!!

Portables totally beat cubicles : )

So, due to some very lovely people, we will actually have an income this Fall, I will actually get that beautiful piece of paper stating my DEGREE in interesting stuff, and Tommy will get one of his internships done a year early! And that is all cause to celebrate.

We recommend Melanie's cake everytime.

Sincerely,

The Happy Germans

Girl Talk : Girlishness

I've come to notice that many young females bond over hysteria splashed with wit.

It is a language and demeanor constantly filled with and exuding mass amounts of energy.

I think it is the consistency and height of this energy that catches my eyes and mind and perplexes them so much so that I cannot direct my attention elsewhere. It's captivating.

Much like catching a pair of squirrels squabbling high up in a tree, only to find that they're not squabbling, they're just chattering with excitement and then more and more squirrels pop out of nowhere and all of a sudden you have hundreds of jabbering, jumping, perfect-haired creatures, running around hugging each other, squeaking "Oh my gosh!! No way!!" every five seconds!

How do they get this way??

And better yet, how do they maintain it? It's exhausting just to watch!

I think somewhere between shoving my nose in books during first grade reading time and stumbling dazed into summer after my sixth grade year of terror [ahem...school], I was supposed to learn "Girlishness".

Therefore I would have had an effortless transition into late night girl discussions about boys and bras and deodorant with my best girly friends, and I would have bewitched the minds of men with my rocket-paced jabber, and I at least by now would speak and type in shortened phrases of already slanged words, and I would use more exclamation points and be so witty and fearlessly fluent in Girlishness that I could just walk up to anyone and conjure up a friendship in a conversation!

But I missed all of it!
Now how in this world does one make girl friends when people watching is a favorite past time, small talk feels horrendous, butchering beautiful words is criminal, bras are finally understood but aren't really common topics between acquaintances and the only boys I find myself talking about are my husband and God?

Maybe I should climb a tree and ask a squirrel.

post script: My deodorant of late is lovely so you know. Tommy smell-tested the whole wal-mart isle and picked it out for me. It's Degree orange flower + cranberry. Now you can tell me about yours.
